In Pursuit of a christian Philosophy of Science

February 18, 2022

In the fall of 2020, I began this blog with the goal of uncovering the principles and presuppositions (assumptions) behind modern scientific claims. After a couple months, this effort petered out. But now, in the brave new world that is 2022, I am rebooting the blog with a deeper focus.

We are living in a unique historical moment. We are faced with very complex scientific, philosophical, and moral questions. These questions have always existed just under the surface, but the events of the past couple years have brought them into sharp relief. What’s more, the advent of the information age has allowed us to be bombarded with a cacophony of podcasts, videos, articles, news reports, social media posts, and every conceivable form of communication – all offering discordant answers to the questions that plague us. Often, these answers seem less designed to relay truth and more to support a particular narrative.

How do we find the truth amid this overload of words words words? That is the question I hope to engage in this new series of blog posts. Particularly, I want to help us do two things:

    1. Acquire tools that we can use to dissect and evaluate the claims that are flying past our heads.

    1. Learn to dig deeper to uncover the philosophy of science hidden beneath these claims.

It is my hope that the tools offered in these short posts will help us in our journey to a better understanding – not only of which scientific claims are true and which are false, but also of why those claims are true or false.

Most posts will fit into one of the following categories:

    • Medical Technology

    • Worldviews and Philosophy

    • The Glut of Information

    • Credibility and Discernment

These posts will be about 300 or 400 words a shot. This will hopefully keep them concise and usable – simple but not simplistic. They will go up every 3 or 4 days. If you’d like them delivered to your inbox, that can be arranged by scrolling to the bottom of this page and entering your email. I will also be posting links to each post on Facebook (if that’s more your style).
